From the President's Desk: Sharing is Caring

It’s June! Halfway through the year. Happy Pride Month!
When I was growing up, my young mind would often be quite surprised when something unexpected happened. My much older, calmer family members would say things like, “There’s nothing new under the sun,” and share a similar event that happened before. They would also share the resolution of it, showing me that the problem has been solved and life went on.
That is why there is such power in sharing stories, experiences, and resources. As communications professionals (and as people!), it can be easy to believe that nobody has faced anything harder than what we are facing now. When the truth is that people have faced it and come out on the other side of it. And life goes on.
A perfect example: PR pros at the May “Crisis Communications: Best Practices for an Ever-changing World” panel shared their experiences, which was so helpful to everyone in the room. We see it when more experienced professionals share their backgrounds with up-and-coming communicators. I see it when something comes up and the first thing I ask my team is: “How have we handled something like this before?” to ground us in what went well or what can be improved.
Continue to share your stories, your time, and your achievements with PRSA and beyond. Sharing is a valuable tool that helps us all and reminds us of all that we have accomplished. Speaking of sharing, don’t forget to count sharing the gift of PRSA membership with a recent grad among the ways that sharing is caring.
In the spirit of sharing more,
Bridgette
