From the President’s Desk: S is for September…and Skyline Awards!

September is my favorite month, and not JUST because I’m celebrating a birthday this month (Gifts accepted in the form of chocolate, thanks). These days, it is also because we get a chance to celebrate Chicago’s best efforts in public relations and communications at PRSA Chicago’s Annual Skyline Awards, and the event is in a couple of weeks.

The Skyline Awards are a real treat, as an annual event to recognize the best of the best. I’m thrilled by the work of our Awards Committee (well done!) and the support of all of our committees to spread the word and generate excitement. The Skyline gala will be returning to the beautiful Venue West for the ceremony, and we’re so excited to party the night away with our colleagues.

In case you’ve ever wondered: PRSA Chicago does not judge the entries of our colleagues who enter the awards (as some board members may have entered themselves.) Most PRSA chapters participate in a reciprocal judging program, where chapters judge the applications of PR/comms pros who live and work in other cities. If you are an APR, reciprocal judging is a fantastic way to keep your accreditation current. I have had the privilege of judging the entries of some of our sister chapters, and I continue to be blown away by the strategy and creativity exhibited by those in our profession.

So, as I enjoy the seasons changing from summer to fall, I can say I’m also thoroughly enjoying PRSA awards season. I am looking forward to congratulating our new crop of winners and celebrating the work that continues to inspire us all.
