PRSA Chicago's Young Professional Network is back with our next "Pass the Mic" panel series.
According to Cision, journalists get upwards to 50 pitches a week. With the increase in competition, today’s young professionals are navigating new ways to make their stories stand out. This discussion will explore “Do's and Don’ts” of pitching and tips on how to develop strong relationships with reporters. Following the panel discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to network with other young professionals over drinks.

Senior Director of Media Relations | ICF Next
Rachel Cooper is the Senior Director of Media Relations at ICF Next and leads the media relations practice for commercial clients. A seasoned communications strategist with more than 13 years of experience, Cooper has driven media coverage and business results for a diverse list of global and U.S. clients such as Hormel Foods, Expedia Group, PepsiCo, Danone North America, and Molson Coors.
A champion of diverse teams and ideas, she operates as both an internal and external consultant on media relations, helping to guide media strategy and storytelling, C-suite counseling, and interview training for executives and celebrities. She is also a proud recipient of the ICF Next leadership award for exceptional mentorship and coaching skills.
Manager | Golin
Meagan Finucane is a manager within GolinHealth’s practice, currently providing day-to-day account and media support for various pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients. Her attention to detail and ability to foster strong relationships within media has allowed her to earn the trust of her colleagues and clients. Her passions include patient advocacy, disease awareness, precision medicine, diagnostics and biotech. Meagan has worked on a range of clients including, but not limited to, Amgen, Humana, Zimmer Biomet, Janssen (Pharmaceutical arm of Johnson and Johnson), Siemens Healthineers and Merck.
Finucane's expertise lies in science communication support, medical strategy, media and strategy. She has coordinated interviews for her clients with top-tier news and health trades including CBS News, SHAPE, The Washington Post, Endpoints News, Fierce Pharma, and more helping to advance their thought leadership profiles.
Finucane has a strong understanding of medical processes which specifically include the facilitation of legal, regulatory and medical materials. She has supported ten U.S. and global medical meetings, and helped launch two FDA drug approvals.
Finucane enjoys being an active volunteer inside and outside of Golin at various nonprofit and professional organizations. Within Golin she serves as the Reserve Mentor Program and is also a part of the DE&I employee resource group. Outside of work, Finucane is a mentor for Loyola University’s PR and Communications program and a member of Chicago’s PRSA. In her free time, she enjoys exercising and is pursuing her 300-hour yoga certification.
Finucane is a graduate of Purdue University where she earned degrees in public relations and strategic communication and Spanish.
Josephine Bonnie Mallari
Senior Manager, Media Relations, Current Global
Josephine Bonnie Mallari is a senior manager, media relations at Current Global in Chicago. With a passion for all things earned media, she works with Clients to develop and execute national campaigns supported by robust media strategies that put their brand or product in the spotlight.
Mallari specializes in consumer media with a concentration on food, beverage, health/fitness and lifestyle and often lends her expertise to pro bono projects for non-profit organizations to help in uplifting their voices and mission. During her 4-year tenure at Current Global, Josephine has supported a variety of the agency's Clients such as Applebee’s, Chuck E. Cheese, Subway, Old Forester, De’Longhi, BISSELL, and more.
Mallari is currently obtaining her master’s in public relations and corporate communications from Georgetown University.
